Pete, 24, consultant, comments:

the difference between white collar and blue collar crime is not just that violence sells newspapers, though it does. It is also that violence destroys individual lives pretty effectively. Even the most audacious corporate robbery that bankrupts companies will hit a damage limit eventually; the loss is diffused and borne by a greater number of people. But a random knife attack can leave an individual permanently scarred, disabled, or dead.
In valuing the person above money society makes a good distinction. No matter how much white-colar criminals get away with, they're still less repellent than some twat with a blade and an attitude problem.

Am sure the entire communities who have been finacially crippled, lost their jobs, their pensions and their futures would agree that the hurt is massively diluted the more victims there are.

What about pink collar crime?

ENRON!!!!!!!! Wiped out 10's of thousands of pension funds. Caused Stock Market falls across the world. Had a knock on effect that cost 100's thousands of jobs. It may not have killed anyone directly but Ill take the guy with the knife to stop that amount of misery. We are not just talking about people's money, we are talking about lives worked towards goals. Many of which will not be reached by corporate/individual greed.
